Meet the Artist

Kassi is a globally celebrated ceramicist weaving stories of African heritage through clay. Born in Cameroon and based in Lagos, Nigeria, she transforms traditional ceramics into intricate works of fine art. With over two decades of experience, Kassi has held leadership roles in ceramic studios, founded a ceramics collective, exhibited internationally, and earned membership in the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), cementing her status as a leading figure in contemporary African art.

Her signature style blends mosaic-like patterns inspired by African textiles, hand-carved masks, and symbolic motifs. Mastering diverse ceramic techniques—coil, mold casting, slab construction, and glazing—her work features intricately carved faces and ornate lines adorning large sculptural vases, vessels, cubes, plates, and stylized human figures. Each piece delves into themes such as womanhood, resistance to domestic violence, environmental volatility, and humanity's profound connection to nature.

Kassi's creative process is spontaneous and guided by an unbounded sense of freedom. Her versatility extends beyond ceramics to figures sculpted in wood, bonded stone, and drawings, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach and relentless curiosity.

Passionate about mentorship and knowledge-sharing, Kassi has shaped the next generation of ceramicists in Cameroon and Nigeria. You will experience the meditative rhythm of shaping clay in her studio, learning traditional African techniques, and experimenting with contemporary forms under her warm, inspiring guidance.

Explore Lagos

Lagos is Africa’s cultural capital on the rise—a city alive with creative energy and innovation. Kassi's studio is 40 minutes outside the city center in a residential neighborhood, offering a more local, everyday atmosphere. At the heart of Lagos is its thriving arts scene, where galleries like Nike Art Gallery and Terra Kulture showcase contemporary Nigerian talent alongside traditional craftsmanship. The streets are alive with vibrant murals, while festivals like Lagos Photo and Art X Lagos draw global audiences, celebrating the city’s burgeoning role as a cultural capital. Music, too, is a lifeblood here; Lagos is the birthplace of Afrobeats, where artists like Burna Boy and Wizkid turn local sounds into global anthems.

For lovers of ceramics and craft, Lagos is at the heart of a creative renaissance. A new wave of Nigerian artists is redefining traditional forms, and in Kassi’s studio, you’ll experience how the city’s contrasts—bustling markets, serene lagoons, ancient techniques, and contemporary visions—inform her work.

But Lagos isn’t just about the arts. It’s a place with dynamic flavors, from the roadside smoky and spiced suya to fine dining. Nature lovers can find a serene escape at the Lekki Conservation Centre or unwind at coastal retreats along the Atlantic. Lagos is a city of endless inspiration, making it the ultimate destination for anyone seeking creativity and connection.

Additional Details

The best time to visit Lagos is during the dry season (November to March), when the weather is pleasant for exploring beaches and outdoor attractions. December is particularly lively, with vibrant festivals, concerts, and celebrations. It’s best to avoid the rainy season, especially June and July, which can bring heavy rains and flooding. For those sensitive to dust, the Harmattan season (December to February) brings cooler nights but hazy days due to dry winds from the Sahara.

This session cannot be extended for a longer duration. Childeren 7 years and older accompanied by a guardian are welcome to attend. Unfortunately, this session can not be adapted for people with accessibility issues or special needs.
