Meet the Artist

Lori is a knitter, fiber artist, and educator. Rooted in the universal textile traditions, Lori has been working with fiber since the age of twelve. Growing up in San Francisco, she was inspired by the flourishing textile communities of Fiber Works and Pacific Basin textile schools and mentored by revolutionary artists like Barbara Sharcroft and Lillian Elliot. After her degree in Textiles, she studied Sculpture and since then has been creating artworks, exhibiting, and teaching students to find their creative voice.

She works with classic knitting and experimental techniques and loves unusual recycled materials. The repetitive and meditative processes of knitting, felt making, crocheting, coiling, and hand sewing are her ways of manifesting her artistic voice and defining her artistic language. She is inspired by organic forms, nature, trees, birds, and the human body –that to her represent the entwined relationships between birth and death. She also feels connected to the millions of people who work with their hands to create something out of nothing.

She loves sharing her joy of working with yarn, exploring, and creating with the endless possibilities of knitting and crocheting. “It is always wonderful to work with kindred spirits and to encourage their innate creativity.”, says Lori.
