Meet the Artist

Nives is a papier-mâché sculptor with 45 years of experience. Her journey began at 13 when she came across a basic papier-mâché recipe in a magazine. After finishing art school, she started working on theater projects and was invited to collaborate with different theater artists on projects for national theater houses all over the country, creating papier-mâché masks, jewelry, stage props, as well as set designs and custom designs. Today, Nives has hosted more than forty solo exhibitions and fifty group exhibitions all over the world, has taught in workshops ranging from Japan to USA and Israel, and written a book on papier-mâché.

She's passionate about spreading awareness around recycled art and believes "to make an art object out of discarded things or garbage is a game of recognizing art forms in the most unexpected places". Nowadays, she's learning new techniques in digital graphic art, jewelry, and photography and combining them with her papier-mâché works. And when in need of a recharge, she simply lowers her paddle board from the studio balcony and heads into the Adriatic Sea.

My three-day workshop with Nives was an exceptional creative, human and cultural experience. She taught me her method and I was able to make the olive tree I dreamed of (I will finish it at home to complete the project on my own). I discovered her artistic and family universe. She was my tour guide in Split.

I am grateful for everything she shared with me (her values, her vegetarian cooking, t
