Indian Classical Dance - a Path to Entertainment, Education & Enlightenment
- $20
- April 25, 2020
- 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT
On Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 AM EDT (UTC-4), join VAWAA Artist and one of the leading dancers in Mumbai, Sujatha to get familiar with a few Indian classical dance styles. Dance is a form of expression and a vehicle of communication. A classical Indian dancer uses all parts of the body to reach out to the spectator and convey a story, an episode or a theme. Normally the dancer is supported by the apt music; classical in nature with instrumental as well as vocal, in delineating the theme. During this session, we will get familiar with different classical styles regularly practiced by Sujatha. We'll learn through words as well as by demonstration the unlimited possibilities available to a classical dancer. Limited to 12 participants.
What you'll need
All you'll need is an attire that allows free movement of hands and legs. No prior experience required.
How to join
We'll be hosting this VAWAA Online on Zoom. We'll send you the link and details to join via email a few hours before it begins.
About Sujatha
Sujatha is a Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Odissi dancer who's been performing, teaching and choreographing for three decades. She is also a professional Carnatic singer and director of a fine arts academy, founded by her mother Jayashree in 1976, where she's trained hundreds of dancers over the past 25 years. Sujatha's own training started at a very young age under her mother. She later received training from some of the doyens in the field like Guru Kalanidhi Narayan, Guru Mahalingam Pillai, Guru Kathiruvelu Pillai, Prof. Kalmandalam Leelamma, and T.R. Balamani.
