Initially, I was looking for a vacation that would double as a cool activity. I'm a hobby artist, so I googled "art vacation," just hoping to find a resort or something that offered some painting classes, when VAWAA appeared.

I was apprehensive at first, since it's clear I would be spending a lot of time with a stranger. I'm so glad I got over that fear. Peggy never felt like a stranger at all. Her artist soul just connected with mine, and I realized just how much I had been missing. Being able to talk seriously with another person about art and craft was restorative.

I had an amazing time with Peggy. She is so knowledgable about her craft, and she showed me so many things. I know my artwork will ascend to the next level after her teaching.

Just the lessons would have been enough to make this an incredible experience, but in addition to being a gifted and experienced artist, Peggy is also a talented cook and beautiful soul. I'll be dreaming of her fried cod and harissa veggies for a long time to come!

Everything about this experience was restorative. Peggy and I talked seriously about art and craft, which is so rare and so important for an amateur artist like myself. Qualicum Beach is a beautiful, inclusive community, where I felt so welcome. I spent mornings walking through the forest, and evenings after studio time walking along the beach. All the stress I had been carrying just evaporated.

I can't recommend this experience enough.
