One of the many wonderful things about this trip is that it truly showed me the degree to which I’ve been allowing anxiety to block me creatively.

The culture I grew up in is all about doing everything perfect perfect perfect & if it’s not perfect it’s WRONG, & if you’re not perfect you’re WRONG. The geniuses of Gee’s Bend don’t play that way. They’ve shown me a better way to work & a better way to be. I cannot overstate how much this experience meant to me & how much I will treasure it for the rest of my life.
