Much of the workshop i sat next to Nektaria on the loom’s slanted wood bench, learning to weave this complex lil winged horse. Please know, I made tons of mistakes throughout, but Nektaria, master weaver that she is, was always patient as I slowly learned to grasp the tiny threads to weave my Pegasus
Meanwhile, Alexandra checked in often while managing her busy weaving studio—with so many projects going on, my head still…well, spins!
Then one late afternoon, Alexandra surprised me—with a field trip to a remote weaving village. Here i met an 83-yr old, spry weaver, who hopped on and off her small loom, as she demonstrated a few tricky weaving patterns. As i watched, it was hard to keep my eyes off her studio walls, layered in richly woven textiles—all wildly colorful, employing Minoan and Cretan folk art symbols.
But that’s not all! That same night Alexandra also surprised me with a trip to an observatory, high atop a mountain, to view the Cretan night sky—and stars!
