Australia > > > with Masayuki in Japan

Over the years I have developed an interest in Japanese arts. I studied woodblock printing, then turned my hand to Sakiori weaving and wanted to learn more about Katazome. I saw VAWAA’s listing for Masayuki’s class the decided to make the trip. It met my expectations even though I was unsure of what to expect. It is always interesting to study a new medium and I’m still digesting how the combination of the stencils and ink show up in the final product. It’s a good exercise for the brain!

I look forward to seeing how I can incorporate this into my creative practice.

I realize as a result of the class what a large body of work it is and how little I know (quite humbling). Still, I’m sure it will filter through into my creative process.
