I went on a VAWAA because, as a designer , I deeply value hand processes and craftsmanship. I have always loved paper, and for years I had wanted to visit Japan. I believed that the VAWAA experience would give me the perfect combination of all of these interests in a fully immersive experience.
Working with Yuko in her studio for three days was exactly what I was looking for. She was also very organized, and it was clear that before my arrival she had carefully read my brief and made an effort to tailor the experience to my passions, interests, and abilities.
I learned a lot about paper, but I believe the part of the experience that will help me the most in the future is the full immersion into a different culture, understanding their way of life, their ceremonies, and the way they see and understand the world.
