I have long been interested in sumi-e painting, and when I discovered an English-speaking expert in this field through VAWAA, I just had to go. I went hoping to gain a better understanding of the methods of sumi-e painting for incorporation into my own practice.

While there is a lot to learn about sumi-e painting, and one does not become an expert in just one week, I feel that I gained a basic foundation in this mode of painting. I know through practice and experience I can become even better. Whether or not I will make work in a traditional sumi-e style, this experience will definitely help me become a better painter.
