I had recently become interested in Katazome and had a trip planned to Japan. Then I got an email from VAWAA with working with Masayuki in Kyoto as an artist experience. I much prefer to have an immersive experience when traveling and this was icing on the cake. I got to walk in his neighborhood with Masayuki and his wife, work in his studio, and experience life in Kyoto not really from a tourist perspective. What more could you ask for?  

I have 3 beautiful Katazome paintings that we made during my studio time. They are treasures. I also got to go to a local art supply store and buy some of the supplies that Masayuki uses. I have a much better understanding of how to use this technique in my book making work and know the experience behind it.
