Meet the Artist

Tatjana is a well known photographer, architect, teacher and a radio show host. She works with digital and analogue 35mm cameras, and specializes in black and white portraits, architecture, outdoor conceptual and theater performance photography. With a lifelong fascination for light, she believes that black & white photography is the most appropriate medium to express the essence of a narrative. In her words "I spend hours walking along canals, catching secrets beyond words that this amazing city whispers to me. In this fairy-tale environment, everything counts and blends into a magic potion." Inspiration awaits.

VAWAA Includes:

  • Research and develop your personal photography style - portrait, abstract or architecture while exploring Amsterdam.
  • Concept, light and composition techniques for digital photography.
  • Technical aspects of camera and supporting tools.
  • Working in manual mode with different prime lenses: portrait, macro, tilt & shift.
  • Working with SONY α (mirrorless) cameras and vintage Canon FD and Nikkon lenses (or bring your own)

Explore Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a city of contrasts. The boisterous pubs and alleyways of the infamous Red Light District give way to quiet canals marked by idle houseboats and bikes leaning against bridge railings. Home to some of the world’s most famous cultural landmarks--including the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank House--it’s also worth visiting simply for the cheerful lifestyle and distinctive cityscape, which often feels like a hidden neighborhood instead of a world class city. And as overstated as it is, we still need to repeat it--do go for tulip season, if you can. Your camera and nose will thank you.

Our time with Tatjana was excellent. Great approach to refreshing us on the basics and then out of the studio to start practising our skills. Having the opportunity to take lots of photos and really think about what we were seeing, whilst being taken on an expert guided tour of the city was an amazing combination. And we ended up with a great collection of photos!

I ventured into photography as a complete novice. 2 days with Tatjana had me speaking a different language, observing with a certain eagerness and distinction. Here is what I wrote minutes after we completed our 2 days. A word about what I wrote - "wholehearted participation" - I use this expression because Tatjana really had to come to our basic level to explain nuances! And she generously gave o Read more

My workshop with Tatjana was great. She is a very friendly, open minded person with a good humor and a tipical italian temperament.

She adapted the programme to my needs, organized a model for my portrait shooting session and helped me finding cool stuff for the styling.

The teachings were very casual, what suited me totally. They took place as we were walking through the streets looking fo

Tatjana was such a joy to be with and a great teacher. We loved roaming around the city center seeing the environment through the camera lens while Tatjana pointed out great images to capture that we would have not noticed otherwise. I would highly recommend a VAWAA with Tatjana!

My favorite moments were walking around the unique architecture of Amsterdam's buildings along the canals while Tatjana shared the history behind the city. I will also remember sitting on a bench next to a beautiful church on a nice morning with Tatjana as she explained to me the fundamentals of photography. Tatjana took me to a few hidden spots in Amsterdam I would have surely missed. One of whic Read more
