I came with two goals in mind: to learn how to weave and to create a handmade wedding gift for a dear friend. But beyond the practical, I was also hoping to immerse myself in weaving and craft culture in Crete — to understand it from the inside rather than as an observer. I'm happy to say I really got to do all of that through my time with Alexandra and Nektaria.

I left with a beautiful, handmade wedding gift that carried real meaning — something my friend will treasure knowing the story and hands behind it. But equally valuable was the window it opened into Cretan and Greek culture; a depth of understanding I simply wouldn't have encountered through any other kind of travel. It's the kind of experience that quietly shifts how you see craft, culture, and the people who keep these traditions alive.
