VAWAA pairs my love of traveling with my interest in crafting, especially textiles. Textiles are perfect for travelers -- portable, ubiquitous, and endlessly diverse. Plus, there's so much you can do with them once you get home. I've wanted to go on one of these trips for ages, and I was so excited that the timing finally worked out. I wanted to learn new skills, explore a new place, be warm, and eat delicious foods. Mission accomplished! I really enjoyed learning about the practices of natural dyeing and backstrap weaving in Guatemala. I'm excited to experiment and build on these skills and see what I can create. I'm also curious about how these practices compare across cultures. I hope to do more VAWAAs in the future. There are so many skills to learn and places to explore!
