It is difficult to get a holistic understanding from one-off classes. I wished to create this understanding and learn metal-smithing skills so that I knew how to set myself up once I got home. I came away with this and more. I am home now inspired and filled with creative energy to continue the practice I began with Jimena. I am poised to create new, hopefully gorgeous jewelry and I know what I need to practice in order to realize my visions.

Jimena was also endlessly generous suggesting restaurants and places to visit, bolstered by recommendations of students, that included the itinerary of our last week in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires. I had hoped that through VAWAA that I would get to experience Argentina in an authentic way that is difficult to do in a short period. I felt like in Jimena’s workshop, side-by-side with her students and under her guidance, I was able to fall in rhythm with Argentina in a way that is simply not possible seeing sites alone. What an experience. 

Not only have I gained knowledge of desired techniques and a holistic understanding of jewelry making but I feel validated that working alongside an artist is an amazing window into the authentic culture and feeling of a place. I will do it again.
