Sara Jane & Jorja
United States > > > with Elizabeth in United States
I don't even remember how I found VAWAA in the first place, but feel incredibly lucky that I did. My daughter and I live half a continent apart and rarely get time alone together. I was looking for an opportunity to be somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, and enjoy each other's company while simultaneously doing something fun. As a beginner in ceramics, I had low expectations of my abilities, but Elizabeth managed to coax creativity out of me and I ended up with a couple of pieces I'm rather proud of. My daughter threw an entire beautiful set of dishes. Our time in Yucca Valley was so fulfilling, we have decided to do one VAWAA trip a year from now on.
Jorja (my daughter) learned new skills that will allow her to significantly up her ceramics game. While I'm a somewhat proficient quilter, I honestly didn't think I had the ability to be good at any other crafts. While I'm still at a beginner level, I believe ceramics are something I can become proficient at if I choose to move forward with local classes.
