We had a truly amazing experience at Cesar and Emma‘s VAWAA in Extremadura, Spain. Their ceramic studio is spacious and warm, and it had everything we needed to make great art. Cesar is an excellent ceramics instructor. Cesar was in the studio every day with us. He had a variety of ceramic skills mapped out for us to learn each day. However, knowing we had some pottery experience, he asked if we had specific skills that we wanted to learn and master new techniques. As we worked, Cesar made suggestions and shared ideas on how we could take our work to the next level. He not only helped us build new skills throughout our stay, but his encouragement also helped us become more experimental and better risk takers. He provided what seemed like small ideas, but that completely changed the pieces we were making. He helped us envision and implement ideas that we would never have thought to do beforehand. Importantly, as we are sure that VAWAA intended, it was much more than an artistic experience. It was a brilliant cross-cultural experience. They are both so warm, kind, and super interesting.
