This was a different kind of trip than simply sightseeing in Oaxaca city and the surrounding areas. You get to observe a slice of life in Teotitlan del Valle and learn a craft that the Zapotec people have been practicing for thousands of years. My partner and I wanted to learn a craft. We have a much better understanding of the techniques that Jacobo and Maria use for dyeing and weaving. But beyond that, it was a gift to escape from city life for a week and focus on a craft that involves one's hands and body. Jacobo reminded us to eat slowly, to enjoy our food, and to relax. It was a healthy way of living.
