I went on this VAWAA because I came across a documentary about Gee's Bend. I was thinking about making a trip but also wanted to learn the craft of quilting directly from the incredible Quilters in Gee's Bend. I was able to learn so much about quilting the Gee's Bend way during this VAWAA. As an artist, I learned that I don't always have to make things look cookie-cutter. It is more than okay to go with the flow and allow our hands to make something beautiful and unexpected.
