As part of a celebration of our upcoming 50th birthdays, my best friend of 38 years and I travelled to Mexico to partake in an artist retreat near Valle de Bravo.
Immediately upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted and supported by Majo, our host and teacher. We chose to stay on the grounds where Majo lives, and our lodging was an adorable, adobe-style cabin with incredibly comfortable beds and pillows (which was a big deal for us because we both have back issues). The fireplace was adorned with a beautiful vase of flowers, and there was a hand painted card on the table welcoming us. These little touches and the peace, quiet, flora, and birdsong, provided a wonderful place of respite for us. Likewise, the food was hearty and delicious!
Majo was incredibly joyful, patient, and flexible during our stay. She adjusted her schedule to allow time for us to see the butterflies at Piedra Herreda and to explore a bit of Valle de Bravo (and following our time with Majo we went on a hot air balloon ride over Teotihuacán - AMAZING). Though neither of us know much about ceramics/pottery, we felt encouraged to play and experiment with the clay. This led to a sense of flow and meditation as our hands became acquainted with this medium.
