This was my third VAWAA residency. As a solo, somewhat older, traveler I love how doing a residency immediately gives you an "in" with the locals. You get to experience people and culture that would normally be outside of the guidebooks. More than the art itself, I am always seeking this authenticity.

When I do a residency, I purposely choose activities that are unfamiliar to me. Each one has inspired my own art and has empowered me to get out into the world and explore.
